News Flash! Sierra South wins California Film Commission Award."I need a waterfall in Montana!", begged the film scout. "It has to be within 2 hours of LA! It's a pick up shot for a Meg Ryan-Diane Keaton-Lisa Kudrow movie. Do you have anything?" |

OK.. The Kern River and the Kern River Valley has a tremendous amount of diversity for filming, from redrock desert to forests of Giant Redwoods, and of course, the Wild & Scenic Kern River, all within 50 miles of the little western town of Kernville. But this "Montana waterfall" was a new request. |

We thought and thought, looked and looked. Then, in what has to be one of the academy award scouting finds of the year, Fermin Davalos found this spillway on the SCE Borel Powerplant on the Lower Kern River. We affectionately call it "Dial a Waterfall". |

The Edison gang was great to work with and as you can see, the shots look spectacular. Sierra South provided the river shuttles, safety, and rigging for the shot. We even did a "cell-phone-dropped-while-catching-a-big-trout" retrieval. Diane Keaton and her crew were a blast to work with. We are anxious to see our "Montana in Kernville" when Hanging Up comes out in February of 2000.

| Because of its proximity to Los Angeles and its recreational and scenic value, the Kernville area has been selected for an increasing number of commercial, film, and other productions. Just three hours from Los Angeles are locations that provide world-class rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, off-roading, and many other outdoor activities in a spectacular river and mountain setting.
