It's time for a road trip! Load up the Chevy and head to Kernville for the 36th Kern River Festival, hosted by the Kern River Alliance. There's already a lot of paddlers in town. Brush Creek is being run, the Upper is running about 1200 cfs , and today the Lower at Borel is at about 950 cfs. It looks like all the Upper Kern runs and creeks should have good water. On the Lower Kern, Miracle to Democrat should have adequate water, and if the release to the Lower stays where it is today, the Cataracts section would also have (just) adequate water. Lots of boating to be done!
The NOWR Whitewater Rodeo will be held on Friday, April 14th, with the finals on Saturday. The action starts at 9:00 a.m. on both days. Footwear manufacturer TEVA is providing $2000 in prize money for the Pro rodeo competition and is also throwing a big party Saturday night. The Wildwater/Downriver race is on Saturday morning and the T.J. Slalom Classic is on Sunday, April 15th. Here's the Festival Entry Form and Waiver in Adobe Acrobat format.
KRA needs volunteers to help with setting up registration and the slalom course at Riverside Park on Thursday, registration on Friday, judges for the rodeo Friday and Saturday, and gate judges for the slalom on Sunday. You don't have to know how to paddle to help!
We've been adding all kinds of boats to the New Boat Barn.
