Important information about River Notes.
As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, all of the 550 cfs release from Isabella is still going through the Dam Run. This means the flow on the Dam Run is about the same as it is in the summer when the total release from Isabella is 1125 cfs and 575 cfs is going through Borel Canal.
Where will the 100% of normal precipitation line be this coming water year? The current long lead precipitation forecast from the Climate Prediction Center suggests it could be anywhere from Yosemite to the Tehachapi Mountains. We'll see!
Today is the last day that boats that were on hand for the End of Summer Sale will be available at sale prices. We've updated the New Boat Barn, and marked the boats that have been sold, so don't miss out on a new boat at a great price!

A little rain in Southern California! The radar precipitation estimate (Courtesy of WSI Corp.) shows precipitation estimates ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 inch in upper reaches of the Kern basin. The Johnsondale RAWS station recorded about 0.1 inch and the Kernville RAWS a couple hundredths, but hey, it's liquid water, and a bit more could fall today!
It's been a dry summer, so most of the rain was absorbed by the soil. But a small amount has made into the River and the Upper Kern has been bumped up to over 200 cfs. The current release to the Lower Kern is about 550 cfs. Note that, since Wednesday morning, all of the release is directly to the River, there is no water going through the Borel Canal. This means the flow on the Dam Run is about the same as it is in the summer when the total release from Isabella is 1125 cfs and 575 cfs is going through Borel Canal.
Earlier this season you may have noticed that when we mentioned branches and limbs in rapids, that the hazards were cleaned up relatively quickly. These were removed through the efforts of outfitters operating on the River, river rangers Tom Peltier and Chip Carroll, and private boaters. Thanks to everyone that helped to make the River safer!
If you couldn't make it to our End of Summer Sale, but are looking for a great price on a new boat, we've extended the sale pricing on all boats that were on hand for the Sale until September 30,1999! Also check out the Used Boat Barn. In addition to whitewater kayaks, you'll find touring kayaks, recreational kayaks, whitewater canoes, touring canoes, recreational canoes, whitewater sit-on-tops, and recreational sit-on-tops. More than 50 boats to choose from!

The release on the Lower Kern below Borel popped up to 900 cfs late on Friday afternoon. By the time Saturday rolled around it was back down to about 760 cfs, but that can be a fun level for a class IV boater that doesn't mind dodging a few rocks... or cartwheeling behind them, or splatting on them, or squirting the eddylines they cause, or rock spinning on top of them, or doing rockwheels, or splatwheels, or... If you couldn't make it to our End of Summer Sale, but are looking for a great price on a new boat; smile, 'cause we've extended the sale pricing on all boats that were on hand for the Sale until September 30,1999! The Used Boat Barn has been updated again! Now you can select boats by model name. More than 50 boats to choose from! |
