River flows may change abruptly due to rainfall, snowmelt and other factors. Flow data is obtained from the US Army Corp of Engineers, Sacramento District, the California Data Exchange Center and cooperating agencies. The data is preliminary and subject to error. Some flow values specified in the River Notes may be estimates.
Many boaters estimate the flow on the Upper Kern at Kernville by reading the raw stage value from the stick at Riverside Park and then converting to cfs using a rating table. The COE uses the same gage but applies a stage adjustment to correct for changes in the riverbed. Using corrected flow data it should be possible to calculate the current stage adjustment.
As of August 25, 1998 the stage adjustment appeared to be about -0.17
As of August 12, 1998 the stage adjustment appeared to be about -0.44.
