Touring/Recreational Kayaking

Isabella Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Southern California. Our mild high-desert climate gives us great paddling opportunities 12 months a year. We offer affordable, fun classes in the basics of lake paddling for everyone. These classes are easy, affordable, and relaxing.

The boats we use are one and two-person sit-on-tops which have open cockpits. That's cool because you do not have to waste time learning how to do an Eskimo roll. Sit-on-top touring kayaks are very stable, easy to paddle, and move through the water with much less effort than a whitewater kayak.

This is a fun class in which the entire family can begin learning how to paddle a kayak on the calm waters of Lake Isabella. This session will answer many of your beginning kayaking questions and give you the opportunity to try both single or double kayaks of the sit-in or sit-on-top varieties. Enjoy the tranquility of this natural setting while your guide shows you how to captain these nimble and stable boats. This is a great way to recreate. You'll find opportunities to go kayaking all over the country, probably where you vacation, too. This class will give you the skills to enjoy kayaking under similar conditions, wherever you find them. Participation also allows you to rent recreation/sport kayaks in the future. Includes all boating gear and transportation once you get to Sierra South. Trip starts at 8:30am. and finishes back at the store around noon.
