Forks of the Kern Rafting

The Forks of the Kern One Day Class V Rafting trip is for the adventurous who are seeking greater adventure, greater wilderness, greater challenge, and greater whitewater. The one-day descent of the Forks of the Kern is known locally as the “Bullet Run”, these 16 miles are the most concentrated section of Class IV-V wilderness rafting in the country. Traditionally done as a two-day overnight trip, but with an early start, this world-class section can be accomplished in a single day.

Mt. Whitney, the lower 48’s tallest peak, is the perfect catcher’s mitt for the severe winter storms that rip through the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains. For a brief time during the spring and summer, enough snowmelt flows off these mountains to open the Forks of the Kern. This Wild and Scenic designated section of the river is home to an abundance of wildlife, wilderness, and whitewater. 16 miles and near 100 robust Class IV-V whitewater rapids, puts this section in the upper echelon of what you can experience in a raft. This trip is not for the faint of heart. You must have prior Class 4 rafting experience, be physically fit enough for a long day of paddling, and be able to hike the 3 mile downhill trail to the put in.
